Palin on July 4th: Celebrate Independence, Not Gov’t
On the Fourth of July, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin urged Americans to celebrate Independence instead of government.
Palin said “may that love of liberty burn in our hearts and renew our commitment to restore and preserve all that is good and strong and true about America.” And she urged Americans to remember the words of Thomas Jefferson and Ronald Reagan in a Facebook post:
Happy Fourth of July, America! Never forget what Thomas Jefferson called “the Spirit of 1776” – a sentiment rooted in the abiding belief that all men are created equal and desire freedom. Reagan invoked that same spirit in his famous speech “A Time for Choosing” when he urged us not to “abandon the American revolution and confess that a little intellectual elite in a far-distant capitol can plan our lives for us better than we can plan them ourselves.”
“Today and every day, let’s remember the ‘Spirit of 1776’ and celebrate Independence, not government!” Palin wrote before quoting Ron Paul, who said that “on Independence Day we should remember the spirit of rebellion against tyranny that inspired our Founding Fathers to set out our experiment in liberty. We should ourselves celebrate and continue that struggle if we are to keep our republic.”
