An Extraordinary Event – John Adams meets with King George III

In 1785, just two years after the American Revolution and the conclusion of peace with Great Britain, the new American nation re-established ties with the former mother country, and sent John Adams as it’s first Ambassador to Britain.

So John Adams, the founder and leader of the Revolution, who was at one point declared public enemy number one by the English Parliament and even sentenced to death for treason, now found himself in the unenviable position of finally coming face to face with the very King whom he had defeated.

What transpired was an extraordinary encounter by two former enemies, with all the underlying sentimental emotions apparent.

This video Clip is from the John Adams miniseries, based on the British Royal Archives written transcript of the meeting between John Adams and George III .

May God Bless America
