Obama to nominate virulently anti-Israel Chuck Hagel for Defense Secretary

Ari Lieberman writes in the American Thinker

With the possible exception of former KKK member Robert Byrd of West Virginia, Chuck Hagel is arguably the most hostile anti-Israel U.S. senator ever to serve.  His record features a laundry list of anti-Israel actions that include his failure to sign a bipartisan letter to the European Union to add Hezb’allah to its list of terrorist organizations.  He was one of only a handful of senators who refused o sign the letter.

But what is perhaps most disconcerting is Hagel’s 2006 pejorative reference to the so-called “Jewish lobby,” conjuring up the old anti-Semitic canard — very popular in the Arab world and among Nazi Conspiracists — of rich, powerful Jews pulling the strings of Washington.  Images of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion come to mind, and perhaps this is what Hagel wanted his audience to absorb.

Maybe it’s me – but is this just another slap in the face to Israel to go along with Obama’s total body of work showing disdain for Israel in particular and Jews in general.

What’s your take ?

This is what sober voices said about Hagels appointment.

“Enormously qualified” THE HONORABLE WILLIAM COHEN, FORMER DEFENSE SECRETARY TO PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON AND U.S. SENATOR FROM MAINE
“Mr. Hagel is a man of unshakable integrity and wisdom who has served his country in the most distinguished manner in peace and war”
GENERAL JIM JONES, FORMER NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISOR TO PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA
“He is a rare example of a public servant willing to rise above partisan politics to advance the interests of the United States and its friends and allies.”
GENERAL BRENT SCOWCROFT, FORMER NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISOR TO PRESIDENTS GERALD R. FORD AND GEORGE H.W. BUSH
Hagel “would infuse into our foreign policy what is very much needed…strategic influence.”
DR. ZBIGNIEW BRZEZINSKI, FORMER NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISOR TO PRESIDENT JIMMY CARTER
“Impeccable choice for Defense Secretary”
Nicholas Burns, Former Ambassador to NATO and Greece
Ryan Crocker, Former Ambassador to Iraq and Afghanistan
Sam Lewis, Former Ambassador to Israel
Edward Djerejian, former Ambassador to Israel and Syria
William Harrop, former Ambassador to Israel
Daniel Kurtzer, former Ambassador to Israel and Egypt
William H. Luers, former Ambassador to Venezuela and Czechoslovakia
Thomas R. Pickering, former Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs,
Ambassador to Israel and Russia
Frank G. Wisner, former Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, Ambassador to Egypt and India
Add 10! US Generals to that list that think Chuck Hagel would be a great secretary of the DOD.
Who do AIPAC and the neocons have? Bill Kristol the cheer leader for the Iraqi war, that left 5 thousand of our troops dead, and 5 times that many wounded. Not to mention the trillion + that nearly bankrupt us. And all the rest like him, the list goes on and on. These creeps want to be a character witness to a American war hero. All they have are half truths at best and lies and smear tactics at worst.
If this wasn’t so sicking it would be laughable.

That’s your take …. you are entitled.

Bill Kristol – you must be kidding if you think he is relevant to the Conservative movement.
